What is Cosplay?

Literally "Cosplay" is the abbreviation of "Costume Playing".

Cosplay takes its origins from Japan, where all the people are identified by an uniform: students have a school uniform from which you can say of what school they are part; the office lady has her uniform and so on.

Everybody have a dress that identify him, but also the characters of every anime got, in function of their personality, a type of dress (for example Selphie has a yellow dress, a suitable color because it's solar and bring happiness).

Each character has a dress, a costume that distinguishes him. The cosplay is based upon this.

Why not to play to dress like someone that we aren't, as when we were child and we played to be a mom or a soldier? The Cosplay is the same thing.

The Cosplay that we are used to do, in Japan is called Anime, Manga or Game Cosplay; in a few words it's dressing like the characters of manga, anime or videogames.

Also Cosplay contests exists where you can challenge other people with your costume, and a jury judge the making of the dress and the interpretation of the character.

The best is that usually costumes aren't bought but the are handmade (even if in Japan there are shops specialized in Cosplay).

And this is the most exciting part: working to see the finished work.

But Cosplay, isn't only dressing but also know how to interpret the character, acting like him, felling the same emotions and thinking like him.

We think that this is one of the best things in Cosplay, being another person. It's hard but if you succeed it's a huge satisfaction.
